The literature concept extends the defined layout principle for all requirements for publications. Depending on the content and target group, the publications are divided into content-related and formal topics. This ensures a uniform appearance for all Koenig & Bauer print products.

Format-specific column grids have been predefined for standard formats. These allow maximum flexibility when positioning texts and images. The baseline grid is predefined and runs within the print space. Running texts are always positioned within the grid. Column grids and baseline grids are already available for the respective formats in the InDesign templates, and can be used directly.

The trademark is positioned centrally in the layout, and the claim is set flush to the trademark in the lower print space. The print space is derived from the size definitions of the trademark and the positioning of the claim. Only the brand colours are used as a background. The colour choice depends on the content and target group. Koenig & Bauer Red is used for special publications. Koenig & Bauer Grey is used for the product and service level. Koenig & Bauer Blue is used for the corporate and image level. Images are always positioned in predefined grids and cropped along at least one edge of the format. The image content also depends on content and target group. Headlines are always inserted according to the predefined headline principle, which always foresees a second line. Instead of the headlines, information can be inserted on a second level as a subheadline. The spacing between the headline and the subheadline is always two blank lines. In the final layout, elements (image or text) should always be aligned to the visual axis between the trademark and the claim. Column grids and baseline grids are already available for the respective formats in the InDesign templates, and can be used directly. The colour coding for publications helps to structure and clearly assign content to the respective areas. The layout principle for the half title is based on the layout of the title page. The headline and the claim are always positioned in the identically same place. A chapter is always introduced by a headline, generally followed by an introductory text which is aligned to the following blocks of body copy. Chapters may be introduced by cropped, large-scale, double-page images. Chapters may also be introduced using smaller images. The introductory text may be positioned freely if it is not followed by body copy. Headlines may also be positioned flush right before an introduction. Images can also be positioned with full bleed. The flexible layout grid allows for different text columns; the introductory text is also positioned in a column of its own. Lead pages always use Koenig & Bauer Blue and include a large-print headline and a lead text. Fold-out pages can be used to portray and describe machines in an opulent manner. Tables are left open at the sides. Visually, the individual columns are separated by gaps. No line is inserted at the bottom of a table. The first line of a table is drawn in Koenig & Bauer Red, all other lines are inverted in black or Koenig & Bauer Blue. The background colour of the back cover of a brochure corresponds to the cover. Text is aligned to the positioning of the trademark and claim.
